  • Holbein solvent for oil paint

Holbein additives are the leading aid for painters to improve the quality of oil paints. Holbein's full range of solvents provide unique properties to enhance the consistency or change the properties of paints with a variety of solvents. Holbein uses the best raw materials to produce many highly rated oils, varnishes, and solvents.

    - Oils: Base of oil paint. Basically, oils (most commonly linseed oil) are used as both Binder and “Vehicle” for oil paints. Paint oils can be added to paint to change the texture of the color layer - adjusting consistency, gloss and drying time. Especially when painting in multiple layers, using oil helps retain the "flexibility" and durability of the color layer in complying with the rule of "fat" on "thin" / thick layer on top of thin layer / oily layer on top. layer with little oil or a lot of solutes/long-drying layer on top of the quick-drying layer, preventing excessive thinning of oil color when using solvents.

    - Solvents (Mediums): Used to change the texture of the color layer – adjusting consistency, gloss, flow drying time and texture. Use in sufficient quantity.

Solvents: Used to significantly thin the paint layer. Specially used to wash brushes and palettes after painting. Should only be used when painting the first/lining layers to avoid uneven drying and cracking of the painting.

    - Varnishes/ Varnishes: Use as a protective layer after the painting is completely dry (6-9 months or up to 1-2 years depending on the thickness of the paint layer).
